Silver Moon Farm is a small farm located in Tennessee where we raise Oberhasli dairy goats and Tunis sheep. Our journey began with the purchase of eight acres in Ardmore, TN, in 2004. We quickly outgrew that and recently purchased 65 acres in Pulaski, TN, in 2016, giving us the room we need to grow.
We currently have a small herd of Oberhasli dairy goats and a small flock of Tunis sheep. With the extra milk provided by our dairy goats we make a variety of soaps with essential oils, clays and herbs that we sell through our Etsy shop and local arts and crafts fairs. In the spring we offer select kids for sale. We are just starting with our Tunis sheep and have three 2016 ewes that we plan to breed in 2017. We really like the ease of care of these sheep and plan to expand our flock in the future, along with selling breeding stock, freezer lamb and wool.
We both grew up in Iowa, I on a dairy farm and Jon in a small rural community, but when Jon retired from the Army we decided to make Tennessee our home. Our focus is on heritage breed livestock that do well on pasture with minimal inputs, and the rolling pasture and woodlands of Tennessee are proving to be a great place for that.
In addition to the small stock, horses are a big part of our lives and we enjoy trail riding and arena work with our Quarter Horses. They’re also the models and inspiration for my photography business.
